ACM Update: The CAP Act / Jan. 2011

A Message From the ACM Executive Director, Sylvia Strobel:

Dear Friends:

As many of you have heard, we hope to see the CAP Act reintroduced in the House of Representatives in a matter of weeks, with support from both Democrats and Republicans. This legislation is critical for the sustainability of many public, educational and governmental cable channels. Members of Congress must hear from constituents regarding the CAP Act and its impact on community media - that means you, your members, and your viewers, supporters, partners and users of services.

Your representatives need to hear from you on "home turf". Next week (Jan. 31-Feb. 4) and the week of February 22-25, are Work Weeks at home for House members. It is imperative that you schedule meetings with your Congressional representatives in their district offices and ask for their support of the CAP Act. It is also critical that your members, employees, volunteers, supporters and users do the same AND send letters of support for the CAP Act. Additionally, you should invite your members of Congress to your access centers if you have not already done so, for a tour and/or to participate in a program. To make this process easier, we have drafted a template (attached) that you can personalize for your facility and community, and use as a leave behind and/or letter of support.
